It's been a few years since I built my buggy and it's gone through some changes along the way, but now it's getting a complete overhaul and I figured I'd document it here.
Why does it need a REbuild? Well, mostly because this happened on the waterfall on Upper Helldorado this year in Moab: Image Insert:

On top of that I hated the C-4 every time I stood the rig up it would puke hot tranny fluid out all over my right leg and only intermittently work.
So, the new drivetrain going in: Image Insert:
 70.3 KB
New combo is the same Explorer 5.0 with FRPP 12071-A50 harness and A9P EEC; built C-6 with 4R70W low gear set and planetaries; 4 speed Atlas II with 1:1, 2:1, 2.7:1 and 5.44:1 gearing and short output (no spedo/VSS capability). C-6 also has a Broader Performance full manual/reverse valve body in it and the deep tranny pan.
Once I got the old drivetrain out I could work on getting the new stuff assembled. Out with the old: Image Insert:

On top of the cracked/broken D20, I had come off a shelf a little too hard this year and cracked the front oil pan on the Explorer engine: Image Insert:
 46.38 KB
So, to fix that I put on a stock EB oil pump/pan combo and welded a cover over the stock oil dipstick. I'm sticking with the Explorer in-block type stick: Image Insert:

In order to get the Atlas to fit on the C-6 you have to either add a spacer or cut down the C-6 output shaft. No need to add unnecessary length, so I cut it: Image Insert:
 59.08 KB
I also had to modify the oil galley at the back of the C-6 so it would clear the output shaft on the Atlas: Image Insert:

Once all that was done it was time to get the engine and all in. I ended up cutting off the motor mounts and moving the engine forward about 2". Image Insert:
 62.87 KB
Now that the major pieces are in, time to get the tube sub-frame/link mounts done: Image Insert:
 72.1 KB
Then the floorboards could go back in: Image Insert:

That's enough for now, time to get back to work. Joe
