Hey guys! Just thought I'd update you on what's going on with the EB. I know it's for sale, but that doesn't mean I don't want to drive it! Also, I've gotten a lot of PM/emails about that. The general consensus is "WTF LEO!?" Oh how two little words ring so deeply! The answer is, one of my rigs has to go. I have a pretty serious buyer in line for the XJ. If that goes through, you'll see me retracting my for sale thread. I've had "A LOT" of people contact me about my EB. That's awesome! I've met a lot of cool ass people! However, no one's commited. So, C'est la vie! Trust me.... you're loss! (I'm only cocky about the rig because I've learned quite a bit about these things to know this is a good one).

Any way...

Last night I got the gas tank's wires all done up and prettied up. That includes the pump. I also got my supply/return lines to the tank done, capped off one of the return/vent lines and hooked up my filler and vent hoses. It was more of a bitch than I thought it would be because I had to drop the tank and skid due to limited space and I have my tank tucked all the way up. That sucked, but it's done.

Tonight I'm going to hook up Ryan's headlight harness... finally! I had it hooked up once before but yanked it when I cut my rad core. That shouldn't take too much time.

All of my wires are ran including the 3G alternator. What a simple mod that is! I still need to hook up/solder all the front running lights, but that's really all that's left. I even have the guages ran (original cluster) and the ignition. I'm hoping I hooked to the right wire from Ryan's EFI harness to my RF panel. I used a voltmeter and put the ignition in the on position and off position to find a wire that switches off and on from the key. There were two. I figure since Ryan's wire is orange and there's a orange one on the keyed ignition, I'll just use it. If it's not the one, I'll just switch it over.

I'm really starting to love that Ron Francis guy. He's pretty smart in realizing that people may want to expand in the future. There are many positions open on the panel for future stuff, should I (or the next owner) decide that they need more toys in there. It's pretty neato!

I still gotta put all the fluids in 'er, then I "could" try to fire it up. After that, I'll clean up the interior wiring, panel, and ECU. I still haven't figured out how to mount that crap but you know me by now. I'll figure something out.

Oh!!! Quick question: does anyone know what the stock mustang (92 GT HO) timing set at? I know I need to be at 10* BTDC for my application but is that what the mustangs were set at (around our about)? If so, I'll try to fire it up tonight. If not, I gotta borrow a buddy's timing light.

Get the timing light, You have to set the timing with the spout? pulled out and it has to be at 28* - 32* and then when you plug the spout? back in the computor takes over again and it should adjust the timing to 10* - 12* for you like magic...

I know that there are better explinations of this from some of the "motor guys" here so that is why I gave you the "fab dudes" version ...

Get that puppy running !!!

See I told you I was a fab dude .... But I am pretty good "wiff da intranet"

Timing Advance
Another virtually free horsepower trick is to bump the ignition timing. Okay, so you need a timing light for this one, but by cranking the distributor a few degrees (from the stock setting of 10 degrees to 12-14 degrees) can add 5-15 horsepower to your 5.0 Ford. This can be worth as much as one-or two-tenths in ET. at the drags. In order to bump the timing you'll need to remove the spout connector (located near the distributor on '68-93 Mustangs and near the air filter box on '94-95 models), then set the base timing and re-install the spout. It's that simple. On '96-newer mod cars, see the "Steeda Timing Adjuster" tip later in the article.

Yeah, it's not exactally like what Wade said... Pull the spout ( it tells the ECU not to adjust timing) then set at 10 to 12 BTDC. When you plug the spout back in it will read a new number.

Okay... let me ask you this... I've never done this before, so bear with me.

Should I just loosen up the distributor, hook up my timing light, disco the spout connector, crank it over (hopefully it will fire), and advance and retard the dist. until it reads 10-12 BTDC?

Also... I know you did this recently Tom... how did you prime the gas?? Did you suck it with your mouth, or have Monkeyboy do it? Just kidding, but I would be interested in know what you did to get the gas up to the rail...

Thanks again... sorry... should have put this in Tech.

The best way to prime the fuel rail is to turn on the ignition, then ground the fuel relay circuit so the fuel pump runs. This can be done easily through the self test connector, STO ( it's like ford planned it this way). See picture below

As far as setting timing, you got it right. Life will be a lot easier if you mark the harminic balancer so you can see the marks first though.

Edit: I should also note, that the FP should start pumping fuel pretty quickly ( within 15 seconds or so) if it doesn't you may need to prime the line up to the fuel pump to get it started. If you have a big filter between the tank and the first pump you may want to fill it with fuel first.
Once it starts circulating fuel, let it the FP run for 2 or 3 minutes, it will help get air bubbles out of the system.

You should remember this method, if you ever run out of fuel and need to prime the system, this is the way.

Sold !!! we close on the 14th of next month. I'll put something up about it as we get closer to the moving date.
My bronco has been in colo for the past 2 months now so I couldn't even make a run if I wanted to... Unless someone needed a stunt driver Leo ?????

Please place you seat backs in their upright position and return your tray tables to their locked position as we now return you to the regularly scheduled thread now

LOL! Dude (Wade) I "so" live in Ohio, man! You want to stunt my rig, bring it! Don't forget your fabbin' tools and skills though! Nothing's free in this world.

Okay... I got some bling a-kickin'!

Image Insert:

Man, that mod was too easy! Since I have the Ron Francis body harness, I thought I'd have to jumper my drivers side headlight harness over to Ryan's connections... nope! I just cut off the driver's side plug. Wired it up for nothing.

I ran my ground on that battery bracket thingy, under the battery plate thingy. I got turn signals and running lights, front and rear too. I don't have my side markers working yet, but hell, I don't even have bulbs for them yet. I'm going to tie them into the blinkers so people see me coming (or lane changing).

The interior is a friggin mess, but most of everything is done! I have my turn signal lights (the one's in the cluster or dash) to run, yet, as well as my "bright light" indicator. I have to connect my return line for my PS pump (that's pretty easy) and connect my lower rad hose. I didn't do that tonight because I have to yank the radiator one more time to set the engine to TDC and mark it. After I do that, I connect those last two hoses.

The pictures don't do them H4's justice! You could see in the window of the people's house across the street, on brights. Their very crisp in color too... bluish, like them luxury cars.

Sorry... I'm just happy to know that I'm truly on the homestretch. Tomorrow, if I'm not too busy, I'm going to try to get the fuel primed per Tom's method above. Makes total sense to me, and I hope I can do it.

ALMOST RUNNING!!!

I swear to God if these people keep it up I'm going to give this thing to Scotty to hold on to until I finish college. People really suck.

I had 4 hang ups last night and 2 people called and were rude because I wasn't there to answer the phone.

You should see some of the emails I'm getting to. :roll eyes:

So, the sale of the Bronco is postponed until I get it running. I'm tired of trying to deal with people. I would have made a horrible salesman!

Your so close to having it running. You think headlights get you excited, wait until that puppy roars to life. From what I've seen you've done a great job. I fully expect it to fire up the first time, but if it doesn't we can fix it pretty easily.

haha! Arse!

Well, I didn't get a chance to hear her run. I got nit picky again and checked all connection to the sensors, tightened all bolts, and made sure all hoses were snug. I'm glad I did that because my P/S hoses were all loose. I had to reflare the return on that thing. Also, my lower rad hose was loose. Glad I didn't start filling it up.

Tomorrow, my wife and I have plans with the kiddos. We're going to some cornfield maze thingy where they sell pumpkins and stuff. It's a harvest festival or something. Also, we gotta find some Halloween stuff. I'm thinking of dressing the wife up as a cow and Junior up as a calf. Of course the cow has to have them tits, or whatever their called!

Anyway, I'll do more tomorrow and post up here after I get somewhere further. All that's left is checking the fluid levels and putting the front end up on jackstands so I can bleed the p/s system at the same time. I got the TDC thing done and marked 10* BTDC (I used White Out). I hope that means to the left of 0* because the stock mustang setup looked to be 10-12* ATDC (to the right... don't know the acronym... just guessing).

G'night yo!

It's 5:41AM. I was very busy yesterday. I had no time to work on the Bronco that much. Here's where I am, though.

1. Fuel has been primed. Tom, that method worked like a charm, bro! I used my test light as a ground (one of them screwdriver looking thingy's with a wire and alligator clamp on it). I had two leaks. One from a connection between my hardlines (that was stupidity on my part...tightened... all good) and on from the simple retardedness of me not hooking up my hose between the tank and return line!!!! DUH!!!! I thought my pump was leaking! haha!

2. My battery sucks, but I'll get a new one later. I don't like Optimas. Any suggestions would be cool. I keep charging it, and it seems to be pushing enough for me to crank it over.

3. I have all fluids in there. Only one I need to top off is the tcase. That shouldn't stop me from running the engine though.

4. It's 5:40AM here. I hooked up all wires and gave it a little "turn of the key" just now. She coughed and I released the key!!!!!!! Woooooooo!!! It hasn't fired up, but keep in mind it's still dark outside. I don't want to piss of the neighborhood. I'm one of the only brown guys in this neighborhood and these people have been known to lynch!

Dammit!!! I have to wait a few hours to see if she'll crank over... It's looking pretty good though!

Oh, I did bypass the NSS at the RF panel though. I know where I have to hook this in, but I have to make some pigtails to the panel at another date. I'm guessing the two wires that hook up to the NSS aren't polarity sensitive. Well, I'm hoping. Later I'll tie that into my panel and get the rear (backup) lights working at the same time. We don't have inspections for that so it should be all good.

haha! Thanks man!

Okay, here's the hang low on this thing...

I put a fresher battery on there, and went to crank it over... no love... battery was dead.
Charged it up by jumping the MFer with my Heep. I'm lazy and impatient at this point, right?
Turned it over, and with a mighty ROAR she starts up! Woooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

But... ran into a problem. The tranny blew something out of it. There was tranny fluid everywhere. The thing that flew out of it was cylindrical in shape and toward the rear of the tranny. Passenger side, right above the pan. It looks like it just sits in there, but I don't know how to get it back in there correctly. Also, how does that thing stay in there?

Bad, bad, bad stuff...

That was the sweetest 3 seconds since I've owned this thing! Now, I have to figure out what's wrong with the tranny and how that thing goes back in there (without blowing out again).
