Where would you like to go this year. The Rubicon or Dusy Ershim Trails are again the likely canidate. I am leaning towards the Con' this year since I may have a bigger(wider) rig by then. And, the Con' seems to be more accessible to the larger vehicles than the Dusy is. Anyway, I would like to see what you guys want to run this year and when. Normally we try to get out towards the last week of August. So, vote for which trail and when you want to go.

Rubicon???

Dusy???

When???

I think I am OK for a date change give or take a week or 2. I am doning Rubicon with the Axlesnappers from 8/5 to 8/13 so 1 week earlier would be interesting but doable as long as I don't have any post Rubicon repairs to do.

Is trail open/closed the main criteria for a date change?

I'm ok for a date change.

Hey scotty,
Sorry you couldn't make the BBBB this year. Plenty o empty seats, but "Scotty's cage service" is a going concern. When do you quit your day job?

PRPs will be here any day now, yahoo!

sorry to report I cant do the dusy this year, but sounds like one less rig won't hurt. I passed on the Fordyce Creek last year for the Dusy and got another invite to be trail committee at Sierra Trek this year. August is just too booked!
Hope the Dusy opens long enuf to do it.

The problem is that the trail might only be open for a very short period of time, so we may need to watch closely and play it by ear. I'm still in....

I would love to run the dusy trail this summer, however I don't think my rig is quite equipped (minus the locker) but I would love the opportunity.

I certainly can't commit as of yet but I sure would love to run that trail.

Leo are you going?

Well, we can just stagger the rigs similar to how we did last year with Luke, Greg, and Ken pulling up the rear an hour or so behind us. Good thing about the Dusy, is that nobody is really in a big hurry.

There were 14 "signed up" last year. If we get too many, some might run the same way we did last year and meet up at Ershim Lake. Just a thought.

Okay, looks like everyone wants to run Dusy again. So, looks like Dusy Ershim it is. Would August 23-27 work for everyone? That would be Wednesday thru Sunday. Wednesday being the travel day. We would meet at the Kaiser Pass Entrance to the trailhead. I believe that there are places to park there, or we could leave the tow rigs down in Shaver Lake like we did last year.

If I'm driving that far to get there, I'm thinking I want to wheel a little more than 8 hrs total. Maybe a few of rigs could do the whole trail again. Only drive from Ershim to Courtwright in one(long) day.

Not sure you would even want to do that. That would be a full 12 hours on the trail. Yuck!

Another option is to do what Pete mentioned, but instead running past Ershim, we could head out and then run Swamp Lake trail as well.

Dusy allows us to run it on the weekend. So, we could still do a Wednesday travel day, go in on Thursday morning, stay two days at Ershim, go on and stop at the lake on top of Thompson Hill for that night, and then finish at Courtwright Res on Sunday and then out. Sunday would need to be an early pack-up and departure from camp though so everyone can get home in a timely manner.

I would LOVE to do the Dusy backwards, but instead of continuing out to Courtwright resevior, just turning around and going back out the way we came in after relaxing at Ershim Lake for 2 days. Then we could dump the tow rigs right at the entrance and go right back to them. And that last day section would be very good in both directions.

Tentatively, those dates work well for me. There may be things that come up between now and then, though, so I need to not fully commit until it gets closer.

I'd love to talk you all into an Oregon trip, but since Browns Camp has gotten so lame that even I wont do the 1 hour drive, I can't ask you guys to do it. YET. We're working on it.
Where is Fordyce?
I played with Google.Earth the other day and was able to "stand" right above where we took some pictures at Kaiser Pass! Thats fun.
NOTHING can compare to the way I still feel about the Dusy trip.. Unless its in the other direction. I dont think I can take as long of a vacation this year, but we'll have to see.

Fordyce is near Truckee. But, you really need a very built rig to traverse that trail. Mainly because there are DEEP water crossings in several sections.
